E-M1II will be back in Stock by late January (and new comparison with E-M1)

It’s quite a while the E-M1II is out of Stock in US stores. But there is a small update. The camera will ship in late January according to BHphoto. And Amazon reports a 1-2 months delivery.
UPDATE: A small Stock is now in Stock at FocusCamera (Click here).

Mat sent me this:

We just completed our full comparison between the E-M1 and E-M1 II after using both for over a month side-by-side. Hope you enjoy it!

Eric:The new Olympus E-M1II makes back-button focusing more complicated than did the original E-M1.  So I wrote up a how- to over on my blog: https://wp.me/p1feV0-wb

J-Marc:Hi! It’s a known issue, being investigated (?) by Lexar, not Olympus, according to;

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have the update from Olympus Singapore.

**************************************************
Dear Mr Wong,
This is regarding the situation where your Lexar Professional 2000x SDXC 128GB is not able to read on your camera.

This problem occurs due to a firmware of the card, not in the E-M1 Mark II camera.
Please contact to Micron Technology, Inc

A Look At The Meike 6.5mm f/2 Fisheye Lens For Micro Four Thirds Cameras by David Thorpe

David Thorpe is the first person posting a short video hands-on of the new Meike 6.5mm fisheye lens. He writes:

The fisheye lens, with its 180 degree circular image gives a unique view of the world – and your own fingers, if you’re not careful!
Unfortunately, they tend to be either expensive and good or cheap and not so good. The Meike 6.5mm f/2 doesn’t conform. It is both bargain priced and optically sound.

The lens is in Stock at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.de.

The E-M1II is the best OMD camera for Astrophotography and Long exposure shots

Seldom Scene Photography posted two E-MII tests to see how well the new camera performs for Astrophotography and Long Exposure shots:
The Olympus E-M1II and backyard astrophotography
The Olympus E-M1II and long exposures

The bottom line: the E-M5II is much better w.r.t. noise in long exposures than is the E-M1, and the E-M1II is better than both of them. The E-M1II is nearly good enough to not need Noise Reduction — and this, with a 60 second exposure!
Shots under ISO 3200 (4 second exposure) show the Earth’s motion via “smearing” of the star images, but there’s not much sensor noise in those frames. As you can see, sensor noise really starts picking up around ISO 3200, but ISO 6400 at least should be usable with post-processing. Not perfect, but quite an improvement from past OM-D bodies!
