PetaPixel had a short chat with Tomoki Nakanishi, Supervisor of the Marketing in the Imaging Business Unit at Panasonic. He explained the G9II had to be nearly as big as the S5II to better balance with telephoto lenses.

“G9 Mark II is very good at telephoto shooting and [as you know] the lens therefore becomes bigger [in those cases],” Nakanishi adds. “G9 Mark II is not the type of camera for street photography so we have to try and [design it to be held] for telephoto shooting.”

“I think the G9 Mark II overall is taken to be a very large Micro Four Thirds camera. But if we compare numbers with the original G9, it’s actually not that different in size,” Sugawara says.

Brightin Star is teasing the launch of a new 50mm f/1.4 AF lens (don’t think it will come for MFT). In the meantime they updated the 12mm f/2.0 MFT III to version three. You can get it on Amazon.

Asobinet reports that Japanese stores marked this lens as discontinued. The lens is still in Stock at Amazon and BHphoto…but I guess this will not last long. Don’t think Panasonic plans to make a new version of this lens :(

We think the spirit of the opinion in question here is true: full frame cameras are a sweet spot in the market right now. However, we don’t agree that in order to get to that point it was necessary to drag down everything else unfairly.

There are an abundance of excellent APS-C and Micro Four Thirds cameras on the market right now, and I hope we made that clear here. Jordan Drake is loving the G9 II, Chris Niccolls uses the OM-1 Mark II every week, Jeremy Gray is over the moon about the X-H2, and I’ve never been more inspired and filled with the desire to make art than when I’m holding the X100VI.
