Panasonic postpones the GH3 shipment date (and new hands-on video)

8 months ago |No surprise there– I am disappointed, and still don’t expect to see this camera in my hands before 2013, but I agree with others that have said it’s better to finish the product and make sure it’s perfect rather than rush it out before Christmas before it’s done and working well.
Perhaps they’ll add in some of the customer suggestions like Focus Peaking and such with the delay…

7 months ago |@Sean , I am new to mFT and I have found the EVF zoom function to be excellent for manual focus. What advantage does focus peaking give,I don’t mean to be rude , I know little about it and though I would ask

8 months ago |Uh, Dec 5th has been B&H’s ship date for almost 2 weeks now and Panny direct has always said a Nov 30th release, so I see no evidence of any delays yet.

8 months ago |If you don’t see any evidence, you will soon enough. Major delays are the hallmark of all flagship M43 cameras. A year from now a manager will say “We had absolutely no idea that demand for a high-end camera and its accessories could be so high!”

8 months ago |Sorry Twoomy, mythological beliefs are not evidence of delay. That being said, I am very impressed by your level of cynicism. You are really the champ!! It just wouldn’t be a proper m43 thread without an enormous amount of negativity being spewed out in every direction.

7 months ago |Perhaps you read my tone wrong. I’m a big fan of M43. But I’ve also waited and waited for the GH2 and its accessories to come to market about four months after promised delivery. The EM5 was almost as bad with spare batteries and the grip not available for about four months after promised availability of the camera. Nikon’s D800 release had its problems and major delays of several months as well. The response from most of these companies was indeed a “oh, we really were caught off-guard by how many people would want these great high end cameras!”
So call me cynical, but if the GH3 is delayed and you can’t get it until next year or you can’t find spare batteries or a grip for it until next Spring, it really would simply be following a well-established pattern. Is that cynical?

7 months ago |@Twoomy is the delay of Panasonic gear maybe a local phenomenon I was able to pick up the Gh2 within. 1 week of its release in the UK same with the 12-35 and I just got an email from Wex saying my 35-100 is ready for dispatch. Perhaps they supply the most profitable markets first .

Where are the weather sealed tele zooms though? I’m covered at the wide end but nothing on the long end. $2000 would be fine by me.

7 months ago |Hi admin. I don’t believe there are any days for the GH3 as of yet. Panasonic US still has Nov 30th for their estimated ship date and B&H has had DEC 5th as the expected availability for a number of weeks now.
Could B&H not be factoring in a few days to receive the shipment from Panasonic and get the camera set up on their system?
I’m not saying there won’t be delays.. However everything seems to be running off of the Nov 30 ship date from Panasonic which has been listed for several weeks.

It took me 2 months of more or less concerted effort to get my GH2 in the end of January 2011. I love my GH2, but wouldn’t mind some improvements here and there. The GH3 seems to hit most of my check list. The size thing is bothersome, but I need to handle one before condemning it.

7 months ago |It’s such a game trying to figure out these things, when products will ship, when prices will change, etc. Initially I surmised Panasonic might announce a GH3/12-35 bundle on Black Friday, but if GH3 can’t deliver until after BF, then that would piss off a lot of pre-ordered people. And being that maybe only the pre-ordered folks will get their GH3s before xmas, I surmise Pan will offer something else on BF, perhaps a bundle with other products far from the GH3 realm.
Today I noticed all but Adorama increased the rate of the 12-35. It was $1099.99 for several weeks, now it’s up to 1199.99 and 1299.99 on Amazon and BH/JR respectively. Perhaps Adorama will join the price club very soon. Presumably these vendors take commands from Pan, who said “up the rates, dogg!” Pan’s doin’ some dirt.

7 months ago |Thank goodness I picked up a cheap GX1, recently. The GH3 is what I really want, but not having a camera to shoot with has been slowly driving me crazy. If the GH3 is shipping later than expected, if I was still cameraless, I’d be tearing my hair out. Now, I can just relax, play with some M43 lenses, and whenever the GH3 comes, that’s fine with me.
