I am happy that you fetched it because it shows to noobs how wrong they were about that lovely pancake.
BTW Admin are you aware of the gaping hole about the ‘completely new model’ from Oly at the end of this January?
In a meek way I’d just be happy to know if it has a built in EVF or not. But if I have to hold tight for another 25 days I might as well start to weep immediately

6 months ago |I am aware. But as I told you on 43rumors I am in a very busy private situation. My baby is about to arrive and there are some tensions related to it.

6 months ago |Don’t worry about the site Admin, it will still be here after the baby has arrived.
And I’m wishing you and your partner all the very best for the future and the your baby will be a fit healthy child.

The lens is more interesting now than 4 years ago. With old sensors, the f/2.8 was to me prohibitively slow. Now, with E-M5 and E-PL5, the lens is actually OK, since sensor compensates for the slow aperture.
If I’m to buy E-M5, the 2.8/17mm would be probably the lens I would couple it with.

6 months ago |Glad to hear it. Yes the 17/2.8 is worth keeping. It was the victim of a 2 yrs. campaign by Panny trolls. They never realised that with new gear it was actually more future proof than their overrated, slow focussing 20mm.
I understand that Admin must throw them one bone from time to time, but Oly really took off in 2012, and now Panny seems receding in the background.
*However* the first brand to have a RF-like camera with the new sensor, will have my interest and possibly my money. m4/3 must be v. wary of Sony, Fuji, and Samsung because they all aim at sensor predominance.

6 months ago |I haven’t tried the Panny 20 but I am frequently frustrated with the slow auto focus on my 17 2.8.
The pictures look ok but I do desire a speedier lens.

6 months ago |Yeah, the 20mm… THE STAPLE lens of MFT. yeah, the GH3 receding… Hahaha! Where do you get this stuff from? You have writers?

6 months ago |The test of the Oly 17/2.8 dates from 2009. The only update is a thoroughly negative user comment, dated 30.12.2012.

So proud of you admin, ale, doing a great job. Congratulations, you have my and most of your loyal readers’ utmost respect. This blog is refreshingly different to 99% of the crap out there.
Film is and will always be my passion, but micro four thirds truly excites me with it’s capacity to express me creative views and the potential the system hold heading into new and unprecedented technological territory.
Thank you.

I should also mention that the layout of the page is different, depending on whether you use firefox/nightly (the side frames – login, ads and links – disappear) or explorer/chrome.

6 months ago |Did I understand correctly regarding the 15mm pancake (Lepidi) , that hyperfocal focus isn’t as good as regular focus and thus the images won’t look as good? Anyone here is using this lens for street photography?
MarcoSartoriPhoto on Flickr
6 months ago |I have it but barely used it: I took some street photos but not enough to say that it’s sharp. Those taken under bright light are ok, not bad at all considering the price of this “toy”. At evening you have to deal with that f8… Anyway, I would buy it again, simply because it can be funny. I suppose playing with some filters can add something to it.

6 months ago |well the Oly 17mm pancake is not as good as Pana 20mm but also cost much less,
almost half the price then Pana 20mm
amalric
6 months ago |No, my dear sir, it is not a matter of price.
It’s a matter if the lens is good enough *for you as a photog*. Because no lens is going to save your skin if you are not, and I suspect that most trolls are very indifferent ones.
If you know how to handle it the 17/2.8 is more than good enough for the street work it was designed for. Nice AF is part of the deal.
