4 years ago |slashcam test – key facts:
still more manual controls in video mode compared to 5dmk2
livefeed over HDMI out unlikely via FW update, suspected buffering prior to HDMI output will get in the way for such an solution
no overscan during recording
regarding the framerate they bash on the 1080 (p25 recorded at) pseudo i50 & cutting away 24p/30p mode from NTSC version for the PAL version
they say recording length is limited to 15min/2GB
internal mic heading to the sky & no manual control of audio in (they hope for FW fix for this)
rolling shutter comparable to other AVCHD cams, better than from other still cams
17Mbps framerate to low for critical situations (nothing new here again)
they had 2 scenes with judder (not reproducible) but could not clear the cause (either the class 6 SD card or the OIS)
low light @12lux: discernible fly screen over the recording
problems with editing the video files on the computer with vegas 8/9, performance problems with premiere
DOF comparision to the 5d:
GH1 f4 only on the wide end of the lens, gets really fast to f5.6
to get the same frame they had to zoom in on the GH1 and so compared the GH1 at f5.6 to the 5d at f4 (complete waste of time in my opinion, they should have “zoomed in” the old fashioned way and change distance to get the same frame af f4)
for the second comparition they set f5.6 at the 5d to get a real comparition
conclusion: good value for money & on top you get a good stills camera
