Before we start:
Panasonic really has to get rid of that weir way of naming a camera in multiple ways: G80 in UK, G81 In Germay, G85 in USA…really?

And now let’s talk about the G80 (that’s how I call it from now on):
With all the fuzz about the new GH5 and E-M1II I didn’t post a lot about that camera. It’s basically an “almost” GH5. This means it does everything you really need for a much lower price (I guess the GH5 will cost quite a bit more).

So let’s share few thoughts expressed by the G80 reviewers:

Richard Wong. writes:

The G7 was not a bad camera at all but now with the addition of in body image stabiliser, larger EVF, weather seal, and no shutter shock issue make the G85 a much more versatile camera for either photo or  video shooters. And probably perfect for those of you who shoot both photos and videos regularly.

Jacon James:

I’m a convert. I think the G80 is the best all round camera Panasonic have made to date. It’s responsive, fast and versatile when shooting stills. It’s equally as good for video. Unless you need 10bit external recording, 96fps or timecode, then I think the G80 makes a lot of sense. It’s cheaper, lighter and internal recording quality with the Dual IS stabilisation is an improvement over the GH4.

Milan Šurkala at Extrahw. shared some RAW files you can download:

Overall, Panasonic Lumix G80 / G85 is the camera I would highly recommend. Without any serious flaws and many interesting advantages you can hardly find a better balanced camera in this category.

ePhotozine:

The 16-megapixel sensor combined with the latest image processing from Panasonic, gives impressive image quality, with very good levels of detail possible. Noise performance is also rather impressive, giving good results up to ISO3200 and above. Image stabilisation works with 4K video recording, which means you can record steady, high-quality 4K (UHD) video even when using the camera handheld.
