7 months ago |I took delivery of the 25mm f/1.4 lens last week…$599 free shipping. WHAH!!!! LOL! Great lens, though.
I bet a lot of retailers will be none-too-happy that Pany dropped the price on their website and didn’t issue a rebate for everybody. Right?

7 months ago |Not a whole lot of interest being shown here, makes me wonder if the mark-down is due to an already fading market for the E-PM. I have zero interest myself for a camera I’d quickly tire of given its 2.4″ usable area screen when even my P&S has 3″, along with the lack of buttons and built-in flash.
For those who do have an interest, Adorama is showing a $100 instant rebate on the E-PM1 2 lens kit which is being sold for $599: http://www.adorama.com/IOMEPM1BBL1.html. They also have a $100 rebate on the E-PL2 2 lens kit, selling for $699. The camera that really needs a rebate to make any sense at all to me is the E-PL3, but they’re only offering a $50 instant rebate for the 2 lens kit, selling for $850. Same with the E-P3, only a $50 instant rebate on the 2 lens kit selling for $1050.
When I look at what Panasonic is offering in the G3 (16MP, EVF, 3″ flip LCD), now selling for $599 on Amazon, Olympus looks a bit confused on their pricing to be polite.

7 months ago |I can’t imagine that the EPM1 is selling very well if Olympus is already offering 20% rebates so soon after it’s intro. Honestly, I don’t know why they even bothered with that model at all. The EPL3 is the best of the Oly lot. The tilt screen makes it usable without spending another $250 for the EVF. It’s a shame they forgot to make it a touch screen.
The G3 blows all the current Oly’s out of the water, feature for feature and clearly price wise. Retro styling, IBIS and pretty JPEGs look increasingly thin, bordering on delusional, as differentiators. I won’t even mention the sensor. And it’s really not much bigger or heavier than the EP3. I handled them all today at B&H and the size /weight difference is really not that dramatic, but the EP3 is MUCH bigger than the EPL3.
I sure hope Olympus pulls it together. At least they’re now releasing very desirable lenses! How about a fast 85mm prime on the same level (IQ and price) as their 45mm!

7 months ago |I strongly disagree. For me the E-PM1 was what made me pull the trigger on 43s. It’s smaller than E-PL3 (the biggest advantage of 43 to me), all the same internals I would actually want… And for the price difference I was able to get the vf2 during a special promotion when it was only 109 extra at a local store. All I’m missing is a tilt screen that adds to size.
The E-P3 has more advantages… Nicer controls and better screen… But not worth both size and price difference for me.
Agree on the lenses, but does the G3 have IBIS? I thought Pana never touch that. Even then, still really dislike the dslr bump.

7 months ago |Sorry, misread your comment on IBIS. But still think IBIS is a biggie, for example with new Oly 45mm.

7 months ago |Mr Reee, the LCD size may matter to you. That’s one of the strengths of the format, different strokes for different folks.
Personally, I use a VF2, and almost never look at the LCD. Haven’t a good reason to upgrade my E-PL1 yet, but the mini would be my most likely candidate, BECAUSE it has a small screen……
Mr. Reeee
7 months ago |My GH2 is my “serious” camera, so I’d use an EPL3 as a small social camera mostly with my 20mm or even Voigtländer 35mm f1.4.
Tilty-ness is the key feature as far as the LCD goes, though I would miss the GH2′s touch focus. I prefer the versatility and usefulness of a movable screen and shooting at waist level rather than waving a camera in front of my face with arms extended.
I’ve tried it with my Nokton 25mm and using the LCD alone is adequate for manual focus, even with the smaller screen image shooting 4:3 it would be fine. With AF, too.

7 months ago |I never cared for the E-PL3. It’s a redundant product, like their E-450 and E-600 releases.
For a person who knows how to use a camera, the E-PM1 offers everything you need to capture good photographs. No touch screen, vertical tilting screen, or a big ass screen needed. I myself sold my E-5 and picked up a E-PM1 and am very happy.

7 months ago |I agree. The basic mft cameras make you focus on the photography. I have a GF3 and GH1. the grip, controls and EVF on the GH are nice, but the simple&small touchscreen GF3 (especially with pancakes) is great fun.

7 months ago |I saw both J1 and E-PM1 at BestBuy and it’s hard to think anyone would pick up the former for $200 more. The E-PM1 makes a lot of sense for people moving up from P&S to interchangeable lens system and is definitely more appealing than Nikon’s 1

7 months ago |Back in September when I got the Pen Mini ($700 for twin kit), my thinking was that while NONE of the Pen 3 series had a truly satisfactory sensor, the Pen Mini was a reasonable entry into m43: I’d save a bit getting the Mini and spend more on lenses, with the long term plan to upgrade to the Pen Pro when it came out.
That was a whole 4 weeks ago. How that plan may have changed!
Yes the Pen sensor is a generation behind when it comes to low light performance. Overall though, I’m very happily “deluded” with my Pen Mini …in no small part thanks to the 20mm 1.7
Edit – this was meant to be in reply to Mr Reeee

7 months ago |I’m planning to go the E-PM1 way.
In comparison with G3:
- IBIS of 2-3 stops that makes for the G3′s 1-stop ISO advantage (for my type of pictures)
- Details resolution on par with G3′s (thanks to light low-pass filter)
- much cheaper
- lack of built-in VF and articulated screen… don’t care for the VF, will miss the screen
In comparison with E-PL3:
- same internals
- smaller body
- E-PL3′s screen is nice but IMHO not worth the difference
For the screen, I’m coming from a E-330 (tilt) and before that, from an old Canon fully-articulated Powershot, so I’m familiar with both types; if the E-PL3 were fully articulated, that would have been a no-brainer even for 200 USD more — but with only tilt, sorry…
If the G3 was at the price of the E-PL3, I would go the G3 way, but right now I feel it’s too much expensive. So I prefer to save a bit and get the lenses I need now; and maybe I will buy the G3 at the end of its lifecycle.

7 months ago |Also just pulled the trigger on the 25mm with the EPP deal, along with a gf3 + 14mm combo. Planning on selling the gf3 body.
14mm and 25mm should suffice for a two prime combo.

7 months ago |I also ran into issues when trying to sign up using their “old” EPP website (which had an www2._____.com address, if I’m not mistaken.)
Instead, sign up again using the new EPP registration site (https://shop.panasonic.com/panasonic/registration/workplaceDiscounts)
After you’ve signed up, go ahead and and login and the EPP prices should now be showing.
That should get you squared away, assuming you have a working company email address.
Hope that helps. Enjoy!
