Rob
3 months ago |Yeah, yeah, yeah… I know. It just sucks when something that expensive gets such a nice price cut the next day. Maybe I should go see a psychic before I make another big purchase.

3 months ago |So the price has dropped €200, and you can get another €100 cashback from Olympus making the price €799 effectively (or you can opt for a free adapter). I guess you have to live in NL for the cashback or adapter.
Dreeke
3 months ago |Yes, it clearly states that cashback is to Dutch bankaccounts only
Dreeke
3 months ago |And delivery to Dutch home adresses only. (sorry forgot to mention in the first reply)
NPrincen
3 months ago |Sorry, but some of you have misinterpreted the ad. It is to get a free 199 Euro adapter OR get 100 Euro cash back. The Dutch word “of” is “or.” So you do not get both, only one or the other. So, really the price drop is only 100 Euro, not 200.

3 months ago |It’s high time that the E-M5 body drops to 800.
I wonder however how they will sell the coming E-P5 at 1000. Will the price include a new gen EVF?

3 months ago |Is that PAL format locked in or can you switch between PAL and NTSC on the GH3?

3 months ago |Price reductions are very welcome! However, pricing is not consistent between regions. You really have to shop around and see where you can get the best deals. It could be that your local store(s) can beat online retailers, or that ordering from overseas (if feasible) may save you hundreds!
Just a few examples comparing US and Australian prices. Currently, 1 AUD = 1.023 USD or 1 USD = 0.977 AUD (indicative rates only).
Panasonic GX1 body : US 300 | AU 750
Panasonic GX1 with 14-42 X PZ : US 500 | AU 999
Panasonic G5 with 14-42 & 45-150 : US 543 | AU 999-1100
Panasonic G5 body : AU 800-860
Olympus OM-D E-M5 body: US 949-999 | AU 890-899
IMO, the best discounted deals in m4/3 right now are the GX1 and G5 from US retailers. My guess is OM-D E-M5 still has some further room for reductions, down to $700-750 body only. So if you aren’t desperate to upgrade right now, I would wait until close to mid-year (end of Autumn in SH; end of Spring in NH). June is the End of Financial Year Sales (EOFYS) in Australia, which means even further discounts on already discounted prices. Could possibly get OM-D E-M5 body for $650-700 by then.

3 months ago |Interesting remark. I also suppose that by Fall when the new E-M7 might include the 2 Mpx EVF the price of the E-M5 might drop like a stone.
Then perhaps I’ll fork out what’s needed

3 months ago |E-P5 must be something really special at 1000 without integrated EVF. Even the most ardent of hump haters may determine it worthwhile to get an E-M5 instead, if the price drops to the levels I predicted. Still hopeful for an m4/3 RF styled camera with i-EVF in 2013 though.

3 months ago |I posted after Christmas that it would be worth potential purchasers looking at Australian sellers. Many of them will sell ex tax for an overseas purchaser, (that’s a 10%) but check with each one. Australia post rates are also below US post rates. Just go to Google Australia and search for omd or em5 pricing. Several web groups will supply comparative prices. A lot of UK sellers also export ex tax.

3 months ago |Panasonic are one of the infamous price gougers in the Aussie market, they don’t hold a candle to Adobe’s efforts though (we pay $1,400 more for Creative Suite than US residents).
At least Olympus behave ethically and price their products fairly here.
Companies like Adobe, Apple, Panasonic and Microsoft think they are very smart by charging us more but in the end all it does is damage their brand and breed resentment. Adobe and Microsoft can get away with it (for now) because their products are de facto standards and Apple can because of their patented reality distortion field. Panasonic on the other hand doesn’t have anything to stop its customers leaving in droves, so it should know it’s on thin ice and is probably doing more damage than the extra profit margin is worth.
But hey what would I know, I’m just a guy that bought an Olympus instead of a Lumix because of the gouging.
Ross
3 months ago |I think Olympus have improved on pricing over the last couple of years. The dollar value has certainly helped, but I also think some feedback may have contributed as well.
Ross

3 months ago |I got fed up with Adobe. They have strange price variations for Australia and have spent a lot of money to make sure that you always get directed back to the Australian prices if you try to order.
I gave them away when I lost the use of lightroom 3.6 with the arrival of the EM5. I refused to be intimidated and tried out 4 opposition packages and happily settled on ACDseepro6, it does what I want without all the import palava and is great on Raw conversion and the light adjustment control is brilliant. Add Topaz bundle and Nik HDR and Silverefx and I don’t need adobe any more.
Ross
3 months ago |Thanks Jim. I never liked the idea of Lightroom with what it did with the files mangement & never tried it, but thanks for the ACDseepro6 recommendation. I’ll look it up now. Cheers, Ross

3 months ago |+1. Panasonic Australia are notorious price gougers. You wonder who actually buys their Lumix gear locally. You would just feel awfully ripped off if you did. Just a browse through the lens prices shows how great the disparity is. You can order bodies and lenses from places like B&H and have it delivered to you for hundreds of dollars less and often in less time than it would locally.
Olympus AU offer more discounts, cashbacks and promotions. When was the last Panasonic AU cashback offer for m4/3? “Never” would be a close guess! Olympus AU’s cameras and lens prices are more in line with the US pricing. The lack of included lens hood is still a cause of angst though. Sony, Fuji and Pentax for the most part also price their products fairly for the Australian market. Nikon AU, on the other hand, is another price gouger. One current example:
Nikon D7100 body pre-order : US 1197 | AU 1499-1749
Ross
3 months ago |Yes, Oly Aussie’s RRP price for the 75-300 Mk II has been set at $599 (apparantly) as advised by Ante at Oly Aust. (in Nth Ryde or Macquarie Park, if you like) in their forum in answer to my question (& that was after I phoned them because nobody was looking at the forum after Shane left). It does seem they are trying to be competitive with their pricing, but I wonder what their staffing level is at the moment?

3 months ago |there’s a 200 € price drop in austria as well for both body only and 12-50mm kit versions. But no free adapter.
Seems like european sales have dropped lately, not too suprising considering the price difference to the US prices. Only UK is even worse
menno
3 months ago |I think something has been lost in translation here ,the price drop is only 100 euro not 200.
The deal is buy a OM-D and get a adapter valued at 199 euro’s OR get 100 euro’s back not both.
The adapters by the way are by Olympus and Novoflex ,depending on the mount.
Rob
3 months ago |It is a price drop of 200 euro’s (from 1099 to 899) AND you will get 100 euro’s refund via Olympus as seen on the flyer.
Menno
3 months ago |I think there is some confusion ,(from me or you I don’t know),the price of de OM-D body is 899,- and I think I was been selling for that price for quite a while(correct me if I’m wrong).
I was under the impression that people(non dutch speaking) though that the price drop referred to the action mentioned in the PDF at the top of the article ,that one talks about a adapter for 199,- or 100,- cash back.
I hope that that clears up any confusion from my side or anyone else.
Real@ndre
3 months ago |The price of a OM-D was 1099 body and 1299 with 12-50, now it is 899 body and 1099 for body plus lens.
Rob is right, you can get a refund of 100 euro or have a adapter ring which is worth 199 ( from novoflex). So in the end you payed 799 euro or 999 ..
And i am dutch too, i got my OM-D almost a year ago from Keuzekamp.
Menno

3 months ago |I think there is confusion because the “before rebate” prices are way too high for what they normally sell for in North America. If the camera and 12-50 kit lens was 1300 EU before than that would have been about $1700 US. The same thing sells normally, before discount, for about $1300 in the North America.
I don’t read Dutch but this is not a $200 discount. It looks like you either get a free adapter worth 200 EU or a 100 EU rebate.
Real@ndre
3 months ago |2 weeks ago you payed 1099 for that body….
And yes we allways to much in comparisom to the US… US dollar price is the price in Euro( normally) . 2 weeks ago it WAS 1099 euro, so the price went 200 euro down and we have a refund/rebate of 100 euro or lensadapter worth 199euro.
Not Olympus camera’s only btw….Other brands too

3 months ago |I was going to wait until a visit to B&H in May, but ordered my OM-D today for €899 (€799 after rebate). A fair price for this camera I think – and more in line with US pricing.
Anonymous
3 months ago |Personally, I wouldn’t pay more for a OMD than a G5 now. The G5 is better in so many ways, plus it’s smaller and lighter, with the 14 mm on it and fits the hand, better, without a grip. OMD should be 399.00 U.S. now. Anything more is a joke on the buyer.
Ross

3 months ago |BTW. If you do want to have a ‘dig’ at the Americans, there dollar is (& has been for quite some time) worth less than the Australian dollar.
As much as we (Aussies) may like it for purchasing things over seas, our exports (& tourism) suffers from it.
